The National Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Policy (NREEP) for Nigeria is planned to enter into force by the end of 2015.
The NREEP provides a general legislative framework for renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors in Nigeria and will be followed by the creation of National Renewable Energy Action Plan (NREAP) and introduction of policy tools supporting RES deployment.
The NREEP indicates hydropower as the most important renewable energy source that nation aims to harness to its full potential. The importance of mini and micro hydropower plants is being recognised and appropriate support tools will be developed.
Biomass, wind and solar potentials are also recognised and will be harnessed as well.
