On 1 January 2006, the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment allotted 3.1 million euros to projects helping low income groups to save energy. Consultants and contractors receiving 2006 grants have two years to complete their projects. Households will not be given money directly. Instead, the government has funded nine teams of professionals to advise low income households how to save energy in their homes. The groups may advise on the use of heating and on introducing simple energy-saving measures such as weather strips, low-energy light bulbs, water-saving shower heads.
