The Dutch government and six owners of coal fired power plants agreed upon increasing the use of biomass in the power generation mix. In the so-called coal covenant a CO2 reduction of nearly 6M tonnes is foreseen between 2008 and 2012: - 3,2 M tonne by the use of biomass - 2 M tonne by measures taken in the framework of the Benchmark Covenant - 0,5 M tonne by additional measures, to be further investigated.
