Description:The aim of the voluntary agreement with the industrial sector is to improve energy efficiency by 7% until 2016, taking the average of the years 2009 and 2010 as the reference. If the target is not achieved at the end of the contract, the concerned companies have to pay a levy. In addition, to improve their energy efficiency, the participating companies have to introduce an energy management and some companies are obliged to perform an energy audit at the beginning of the contract. The companies that do not fulfill their obligations, including the annual reporting requirements of the consumption data, can be excluded from the agreement. An independent body is taking care of an annual review of the consumption data, the evolution of energy efficiency trends and the individual efficiency parameters of the companies. It is also reviewing the audits performed by the companies and it assumes a mission of information and advice in order to raise the awareness to further improve the energy efficiency in the sector.
