Energy Efficiency Description:

The 3rd Luxembourg's Energy Efficiency Action Plan, pursuant to the Directive 2012/27/UE, aims to achieve energy savings and energy efficiency improvements by reducing energy consumption of 1,5% per year up to 2020. Overall attainable energy savings amount to 5 993 GWh. Furthermore the action plan contains a long term strategy to gather investments for refurbishment of existing residential and commercial buildings.

Amongst the measures of the plan to reduce global energy consumption, the most important concerns the introduction of a mandatory energy efficiency obligation system for the electricity and natural gas retailers who have to accomplish a reduction of energy consumption among the consumers equivalent to 1,5% per year of their average volume of energy sales of the last three years during the period from 1st January 2015 to 31 December 2020. Furthermore the plan foresees the increasing of promotion of energy management and audits, intelligent metering systems for electricity and natural gas, specific training courses for professionals, increasing energy efficiency of buildings, setting up of national plan to increase the number of nearly-zero energy buildings, etc.
