The Five-Year Plan for Green Growth 2009-2013 is a medium-term strategy for Korea’s development complementing long-term plan outlined in the National Strategy for Green Growth 2009-2050. The Plan embodies about 600 projects that cost is estimated to be around 10% of Korea’s 2009 GDP (KRW 108,7 trillion) from domains of renewable energy, energy efficiency, waste management, environment protection and infrastructure development. One of the biggest projects included in the Plan is the Four Major Rivers Restoration.

Furthermore, to make full use of the institutional foundation built thus far, the Korean government established the 2nd Five-Year Plan for Green Growth to be implemented during 2014-2018 in June 2014. For the 2nd Plan, three policy objectives were specified: establishing a low-carbon socioeconomic system, achieving a creative economy through the convergence of green technology and information and communications technology (ICT), and settling a living environment safe from the harmful effects of climate change.
