Description:Enacted on 7 June 2002, the Basic Energy Law stipulates three goals as the basic principles of Japan’s energy policy: - Security of a stable supply of energy; - Adaptation to the environment; and - Utilisation of market principles with full consideration given to the other two goals. Based on these goals, the Cabinet meeting adopted the Basic Plan for Energy Supply and Demand on 7 October 2003 to comprehensively and systematically promote policies on energy supply and demand for the long term. Based on the law, an annual report on energy (the White Paper on Energy) is to be published.
