Description:The Keidanren Voluntary Action Plan on the Environment was established by Japanese industry (Keidanren, or Japan Business Federation) in June 1997, with the purpose of reducing CO2 emissions from the industrial and energy-converting sectors in 2010 to below the levels of 1990. These voluntary actions by industry lie at the core of countermeasures for global warming in the New Climate Change Policy Program. Regarding the progress of the Voluntary Action Plan on the Environment, as well as the follow-up implemented and published by Keidanren every year since 1998, the Government also strives to ensure the plans effectiveness by following its progress in related councils.
