Agency:Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI)
Description:METI announced that it would demonstrate the program for experimental trading and transferring of CERs/ERUs in 2004. The program will be implemented in order to demonstrate appropriate institutional settings such as national registry, law, accounting, and tax, with the participation of 116 entities (companies and associations) from major industry sectors such as electricity, oil, gas, steel, chemical, cement and paper. It is expected that GHG emission reduction by the Kyoto mechanism could contribute to meet Japans target in the Kyoto Protocol. So far, six projects (CDM: five and JI: one) have been approved by the Government.
