In July 2000, the Renewable Energy Strategy Group published a report "Strategy for Intensifying Wind Energy Deployment", examining the aspects of, and constraints to, the further development of wind energy in Ireland. The strategy recommended is designed to meet the targets set for the deployment of renewable energy at least cost, and focuses on three key elements: electricity markets, electricity networks and spatial planning. The aim is to secure an additional 500 MW of renewable-energy-based electricity-generating capacity by 2005.
