Climate Change Description:

The national climate plan aims to cut GHG emissions beyond the countrys commitment under the Kyoto Protocol. The climate plan outlines €90 million worth of programs to cut 72 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually until 2010. It outlines provisions in many areas, including measures: - To reduce transport emissions; - To boost the use of cleaner biofuels; - To encourage the purchase of more efficient appliances and the performance of buildings; - To require “ eco-efficiency” labelling on all energy-consuming products; and - To encourage more “sustainable” use of air conditioning; - To intensify research programmes, namely in the transport and buildings sector.
