The Commercial Building Incentive Programme has been expanded as from April 1, 1999, to include multi-unit residential buildings and double the number of projects eligible for funding. The programme, introduced in 1997, helps offset the cost of designing energy-efficient buildings by offering a one-time financial incentive to building owners and developers. To be eligible, building designs must be 25% more efficient than the guidelines set out in the Model National Energy Code for Buildings. CBIP contributes twice the estimated annual energy cost savings for approved designs, up to a maximum of CAD 80,000.
