The Marketing of Efficient Vehicles initiative will provide market pull for more efficient vehicles and also support the consumer education campaign, implemented as part of the existing Motor Vehicle Fuel Efficiency Initiative, by initiating targeted campaigns to reduce fuel use through improved vehicle maintenance and modified driving practices. The initiative will also encourage Canadians to purchase the most efficient vehicles that meet their everyday needs by providing information and promoting the use of more efficient vehicles. A system similar to the Energy Star system, currently used on consumer appliances, will be introduced to provide a new vehicle ranking, as a very visible signal directing consumers to the purchase of high efficiency vehicles.
