The Accelerated Standards Action Program (ASAP) will accelerate the market penetration of high-efficiency appliances and equipment products by providing marketing and product certification assistance to encourage the purchase of "best in class" products. One part of the program is the Energy Star label for appliances and equipment, implemented in July 2001. The Energy Star symbol - an internationally recognised endorsement label - allows consumers to easily identify the most energy efficient products available based on a standard set of criteria. The efficiency levels of the best-in-class products will be used to set the stage for the future enhancement of current standards.
