In Wallonia, following voluntary agreement signed with the paper and chemical sector in 2000 to reduce energy consumption, all industrial sectors signed letters of intent in 2001 and 2002 to reduce energy consumption by 2010.
The authorities are renewing second generation branch agreements for the 2014-2020 period. The general principle remains the same (ie improving the energy efficiency of industries and reducing their CO2 emissions) but the approach has been enriched by refined methodological tools and new commitments. The new formula opens up to the possibility of exploiting renewable energy sources on industrial sites. It also allows companies to use energy / CO2 analysis of the life cycle of their flagship product or to perform a carbon assessment on their site. The federations, with the help of their companies, are invited to present a roadmap by 2050.
