Renewable Energy Description:

ARENA is an independent agency established by the Australian Government on 1 July 2012 to improve the competitiveness of renewable energy technologies, and to increase the supply of renewable energy in Australia. ARENA has approximately $2.5 billion in funding to:

  • fund renewable energy projects
  • support research and development activities
  • support activities to capture and share knowledge.

The Clean Energy Legislation (Carbon Tax Repeal) Bill 2013 took effect on 17 July 2014. The Bill profiled $370 million in funding for ARENA over the forward estimates moving the funding into later years (2019–20 to 2021–22). In addition, the Bill reduced ARENA’s funding to achieve a saving of $434.9 million over the forward estimates (2014–15 to 2016–17).
