The Alternative Fuel Conversion Programme was one of the programmes featured in the revised "A New Tax" System. Scheduled to commence in July 2000, this programme was to provide either: up to a 50 per cent grant to purchasers compensating for the difference in the price of alternative fuel vehicles and conventionally fuelled vehicles; or up to a 50 per cent grant towards the cost of converting vehicles to CNG or LPG. The desirable outcome of this programme were not achieved.
