Energy rating labels on space heating appliances

Last updated: 19 August 2019

As part of the Climate Solutions Package, the Australian Government will invest $6.5 million to commence the process to introduce an energy rating label to space heating appliances. This measure will deliver up to 15 million tonnes in emissions reductions to 2030.  Space heating makes up 26 per cent of Australian residential energy use. Consumers can save significant energy and money by purchasing a more efficient heater. An energy rating label will allow consumers to compare different heating technologies and make a more informed decision which best fits their heating needs. The Government will consult with industry on the development of a comparative label. The label will also be supported by the Energy Rating online calculator (energyrating.gov.au) and the Energy Rating app to help consumers compare the operating costs of various appliances.
