Plan PIMA FRÍO

Last updated: 9 October 2019

The PIMA FRÍO Environmental Stimulus Plan has a budget of €1.5 million to replace refrigeration systems with systems based on the use of gases with low or zero global warming potential (GWP) at existing commercial food distribution establishments, or the implementation of refrigeration systems based on gases with low or zero GWP for new commercial food distribution establishments.  Royal Decree 1114/2018, of 7 September, regulates the granting of aid for investment under certain conditions of compliance with the requirements of the European regulation and the cost efficiency requirements in energy consumption.

The amount of the aid will be determined based on the following ratio: €650 per kW of installed refrigeration capacity, with a maximum of €100,000 per system and €200,000 per recipient, in the case of a single potential recipient that submits more than one application.

Refrigeration systems that fall under the PIMA FRÍO Plan must meet the following requirements, among others:

  • 100% of the area of the frozen food cases and 70% of the linear metres of refrigerated cases that cool to a temperature less than or equal to 6 °C installed in the commercial refrigeration establishment must be closed. This 70% does not include the linear metres of refrigerator cases for full service of foods, as well as self-service refrigerated cases.
  • The new system must have more than 40 kW of installed refrigeration capacity.
