Ceiling fan standards (published in 2017)

Last updated: 5 November 2017

DOE adopted amended energy conservation standards for ceiling fans. The amended standards, which are expressed for each product class as the minimum allowable efficiency in terms of cubic feet per minute per watt (CFM/W), as a function of ceiling fan diameter in inches, are shown in Table I.1. These standards would apply to all ceiling fans listed below and manufactured in, or imported into, the United States on and after January 21, 2020.

  • Very Small-Diameter (VSD): D ≤ 12: 21; D > 12: 3.16 D−17.04
  • Standard: 0.65 D + 38.03
  • Hugger: 0.29 D + 34.46
  • High-Speed Small-Diameter (HSSD): 4.16 D + 0.02
  • Large Diameter: 0.91 D −30.00
