Resolution No. 136/09 on Technical regulation of energy efficiency in electrical equipment

Last updated: 7 July 2020

The Resolution promotes a rational and efficient use of electricity by laying down provisions for establishment and regular inspections of energy efficiency standards for electrical appliances and equipment. It sets out the details of the procedure for obtaining required energy labels and defines penalties for importing appliances not respecting the established standards, including potential prohibition of import of such appliances. The Annexes detail the requirements for energy efficiency of refrigerators, electrical ventilators, fluorescent lamps, electrical cooking appliances, microwaves, washing machines and air-conditioning systems.

Concerning Air conditioners, the following standards are set out in Annex X:

Wall or window ACs:

  • Cooling capacity 2625 W (9000 BTU/h): EER = 9.00 (BTU/h)/W; = 2.63 W/W
  • Cooling capacity 3500 W (12000 BTU/h): EER = 9.00 (BTU/h)/W; = 2.63 W/W
  • Cooling capacity 5250 W (18000 BTU/h): EER = 8.50 (BTU/h)/W; = 2.48 W/W
  • Cooling capacity 7000 W (24000 BTU/h): EER = 8.00 (BTU/h)/W; = 2.34 W/W

Split ACs:

  • Cooling capacity 2625 W (9000 BTU/h): EER = 9.00 (BTU/h)/W; = 2.63 W/W
  • Cooling capacity 3500 W (12000 BTU/h): EER = 9.00 (BTU/h)/W; = 2.63 W/W
  • Cooling capacity 5250 W (18000 BTU/h): EER = 8.50 (BTU/h)/W; = 2.48 W/W
  • Cooling capacity 7000 W (24000 BTU/h): EER = 8.50 (BTU/h)/W; = 2.48 W/W
  • Cooling capacity 10500 W (36000 BTU/h): EER = 8.50 (BTU/h)/W; = 2.48 W/W
  • Cooling capacity 17500 W (60000 BTU/h): EER = 10.4 (BTU/h)/W; = 3.05 W/W

Energy Efficiency Ratio or Energy Performance Coefficient (REE), for indoor dry and wet bulb temperature of 27 / 19.5 ° C, respectively, with outdoor ambient temperature of 35/24 ° C.
