Regional Australia's Renewables (RAR)

Last updated: 24 August 2021
The Regional Australia’s Renewables (RAR) initiative supported trials of renewable energy solutions, including hybrid systems, in regional and remote locations with the aim of increasing the use of these technologies for power generation once they become affordable. The initiative had two parts. The RAR Industry Program (I-RAR) aimed to build a portfolio of renewable energy solutions in regional and remote Australia, focusing on hybrid and integrated systems in off-grid and fringe-of-grid communities. It also contributes to knowledge sharing and skills development, especially in regional and remote areas. The RAR Community and Regional Renewable Energy Program (CARRE) aimed to demonstrate viability and reliability of renewable energy systems in grids for small communities and islands, grow supporting technologies, show commercial viability and contribute to knowledge sharing. RAR has been superceded by the Advancing Renewables Programme and is closed to new applications.
