Solar America Cities is part of the Solar Energy Technology Program and is a partnership between the DOE and a select group of cities across the country that have committed to accelerating the adoption of solar energy technologies at the local level. The 25 cities selected received a combined USD5 million in DOE funding in addition to substantial hands-on technical assistance over two years. The partnerships plans include: - integration of solar energy technologies into city energy planning; - removal of market barriers to solar energy development that exist in urban planning charters, zoning regulations, building codes, permitting, and inspections procedures; and - promotion of solar technology among residents and local businesses through outreach, curriculum development, incentive programs and other innovative approaches.
