On 26 June 2008, Canadas Biofuels Bill was adopted by the Senate. The amendments to the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (Bill C-33) give the Government the authority to develop regulations for renewable fuels, mandating a 5%cent renewable fuel content in gasoline by 2010, and a 2 %r cent renewable fuel content in diesel fuel and heating oil by 2012. The Bill is designed to establish a framework within which the Government can regulate biofuels content. This would include the tracking of exports make accurate calculations of the volume of renewable fuels as a percentage of the total fuel used in Canada, and the lifting of administrative burdens that would be placed on small producers and importers as with the new regulation.
