Last updated: 24 August 2021
Established in 2000 between the EPA and large corporations, the Climate Savers voluntary program aims to help businesses reduce energy consumption and emissions of greenhouse gases. In joining Climate Savers, companies make specific commitments to reduce those emissions and participate in an independent verification process. In 2007, several companies and the EPA launched the Climate Savers Computing Initiative to deploy efficient computers with power management tools worldwide. The initiative set a goal for computer power supplies to deliver power to computers with 90% efficiency, entailing a potential savings of USD 5.5 billion in energy costs while cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 54 million tons per year.
