Home Performance with ENERGY STAR

Last updated: 5 November 2017
Home Performance with ENERGY STAR (HPwES) is a whole house, comprehensive retrofit program. HPwES challenges the traditional approach to home improvement because it evaluates the entire house including its systems and their interactivity to identify solutions that satisfy homeowners. Under the program, DOE provides a directed set of resources to HPwES Program Sponsors who are represented by local organizations (e.g., utilities, state energy offices, etc.). The goal is to rapidly scale residential retrofits across the nation by supporting local programs with a “pathway" for the improvement in energy efficiency, health, safety, and durability of U.S. housing; service models that make home performance improvements affordable, easily understandable, readily accessible; guidance and technical resources to develop a nationwide, qualified home performance workforce; guidance and participation requirements that are based on a reasonable level of third-party quality assurance of improvements; outreach; and analysis and dissemination of data. HPwES offers homeowners qualified contractors who have been trained to evaluate the entire home and offer tested solutions that have improved hundreds of thousands of homes.
