SuperTruck 3 funding initiative for the decarbonisation of freight trucking

Last updated: 13 July 2021

The SuperTruck 3 initiative is a grant opportunity from the Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), aiming to foster the decarbonisation and electrification of the transport sector.

The first two SuperTruck initiatives, launched in 2009 and 2016 respectively, gave rise to important improvements in fuel efficiency. The SuperTruck 3 funding initiative intends to drive the electrification of the US freight system.

The SuperTruck 3 initiative offers USD 100 million funding over four years for projects developing higher efficiency trucks and freight systems . The objective is to achieve a system-level reduction of at least 75% of the greenhouse gas emissions coming from the movement of medium to heavy-duty freight trucks.
