Last updated: 24 August 2021
The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research funds a research and development programme on technologies and strategies to mitigate and adapt to climate change: the Klimazwei - Research for Climate Protection and Protection from Climate Impacts. The Programme runs until 2009, currently funding 39 projects targeting both adaptation and mitigation. Projects targeting energy efficiency include the following Strip Casting Project: Further development of process route strip casting in the steel industry, resulting in energy and CO2 emissions savings. CO2 reduction in semi-conductor and solar industry Project: This project looks at ways to improve efficiency in the semi-conductor industry, and develop exhaust gas treatment technology to reduce perfluorocarbon (PFC) emissions. Gas Foil Combination for Horticulture Project: Looks at various foil and coating options for glass in greenhouses, to reduce heat consumption. KliDiff Project: Examines ways of increasing energy efficiency in SMEs, and providing this information to relevant project stakeholders. GEKKO Project: To develop and implement a communication strategy aimed at promoting sustainable construction and refurbishment.
