Law No. 196 of 2017 for Gas Market Activities Regulation

The new gas market activities law was issued to liberalise the downstream and midstream segments of the gas chain business in Egypt.

 

It confers the Gas Regulatory Authority (GasReg) all powers necessary to achieve its objectives, including setting development and business plans, work programs, management rules and techniques and, in particular, the following: issuance, modification, renewal, suspension, cancelation of licenses needed to carry out Gas Market Activities, identifying general liabilities and requirements by which the licensees shall adhere; setting the methodologies for the calculation of tariffs for gas facilities; following-up and monitoring licensees in practicing the Gas Market Activities in order to regularly evaluate their performance.

 

It also states that licenses issued by GasReg shall include provisions to adhere to optimal use of energy resource, to health, safety and environment laws and requirements, to gas market laws and regulations, and any information or data required by the GasReg with regards to the license.
