IEA Chief Economist discusses energy security at NATO

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg and IEA Chief Economist Fatih Birol met on 24 February at NATO Headquarters in Brussels.
Mr. Stoltenberg congratulated Dr. Birol on his recent appointment as the next IEA Executive Director, and the two discussed the growing importance of energy security during this period of heightened geopolitical risk. Mr. Stoltenberg expressed his wish to develop deeper co-operation between NATO and the IEA.
While at NATO, Dr. Birol also briefed a meeting of the North Atlantic Council on recent developments in energy markets and their implications for economy, oil and gas security as well as geopolitics.
