Meeting of the IEA Energy Business Council and Joint Session with the IEA Governing Board and Partner countries – 4-5 June 2013
The ninth meeting of the IEA Energy Business Council (EBC) was held on 4-5 June 2013 and gathered 32 high-level executives of the energy industry from 16 countries.
On the 4th of June, the meeting included the participation of IEA Senior Officials and industry executives. Ms. Maria van der Hoeven, IEA Executive Director, welcomed all participants and presented the scope of the meeting’s agenda. The following discussion, chaired by Dr. Fatih Birol, IEA Chief Economist and Chair and Founder of the EBC, focused on the implications for economic competitiveness of the changing energy map, which is one of the special analysis of the forthcoming World Energy Outlook 2013 (WEO-2013) to be released on 12 November 2013. The meeting also included a presentation by Mr. Ulrich Benterbusch, IEA Director, Office of Global Energy Policy, on the IEA’s ongoing efforts to deepen its collaboration with key emerging economies through its “Association initiative”.
The meeting was followed by an evening reception hosted by Ms. Maria van der Hoeven, IEA Executive Director, with the participation of IEA Governing Board members, Heads of Delegation from partner countries and EBC members.
On the 5th of June, the EBC members took part in a joint session with the IEA Governing Board and Partner countries. The meeting included presentations from the IEA Secretariat on recent developments in oil, gas and renewables markets, followed by an advanced preview and debate on the emerging messages of the WEO-2013 Special Report “Redrawing the energy-climate map”, which has been released one week after the EBC meeting, on 10 June in London.
