Background: |
The COP/MOP meeting in Copenhagen in December 2009 saw the culmination of a number of years of negations that are attempting to set the globe on a long-term path towards limiting climate change. The results of these negotiations will decide if we are to achieve the well recognised goal of limiting climate change to less than 2oC and also identify the technological tools that will enable us to do so. CCS has had a mottled history within the negotiations to date with it being permitted in some mechanisms and by some countries but not others. This webinar will look at how CCS featured in the recent round of climate change negotiations in Copenhagen from a number of perspectives. Included will be a overview of how CCS has featured in the negotiations to date including in the UNFCCC, the Marrakesh Accords, and the Kyoto Protocol. This will be followed two presentations from the most recent round of negotiations in Copenhagen which will discuss the results from the perspectives of and Annex-1 country and a non-Annex-1/G77 country focusing mainly on CCS in the Clean Development Mechanism. This will be followed a business and industry perspective and a presentation on CCS under Long-term Cooperative Action for post-2012 including a proposed alternative mechanism for CCS deployment. A discussion session will then occur on the next steps in the process as well as questions from the audience. |
