Background: |
G8 leaders declared at the 2008 Hokkaido Summit that: "we strongly support the launching of 20 large-scale CCS demonstration projects globally by 2010, taking into account various national circumstances, with a view to beginning broad deployment of CCS by 2020". An International Energy Agency Global Peer Review will be held in Bergen, Norway, on 27 May 2009. At this event, the documentation to be reported to the G8 in 2010 on the status of the above mentioned 20 large-scale CCS demonstration projects will be reviewed. The Global Peer Review is being organised in the margins of the High-level conference on CCS on 27-28 May. The Global Peer Review is organised by the IEA Working Party on Fossil Fuels, the IEA body with responsibility for fossil related policies and technologies, including environmental and energy security issues. The event will be opened by the Norwegian Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Mr. Terje Riis-Johansen (tbc) and a foreign high-level representative. Key components of the Global Peer Review include: - High level keynote introductions - Assessing progress of launching the 20 CCS projects - global overview and criteria (inputs from the IEA and involved stakeholders) - Regional demonstration activities - G8 reporting on CCS demonstrations - preliminary findings. The Global Peer Review will take place at Radisson SAS Hotel Norge, Bergen, conveniently located within walking distance from the Grieg Hall, where the high-level conference on CCS will open in the afternoon. |
