International Workshop Fuel Efficiency Policies for Heavy-Duty Vehicles

Location and date(s) of workshop:
IEA, Paris: 21-22 June 2007

Organiser(s): IEA / International Transport Forum

Background:

The IEA was called upon by G8 leaders at their 2005 summit in Gleneagles to advise on alternative energy scenarios and strategies aimed at a clever and competitive energy future and was asked, among other things, to review existing standards and codes on vehicle efficiency and identify best practices. Heavy-duty vehicles are responsible for 30% of world-wide fuel use. The industry has already achieved significant improvements in vehicle efficiency but large potential savings remain. The International Energy Agency, together with European Conference of Ministers of Transport will host a workshop to explore measures to dramatically improve the fuel efficiency of heavy-duty vehicles (HDV). The Workshop welcomes policymakers, government officials, researchers, and representatives from NGOs and industries.
