On Wednesday, 28th April, 2004 the IEA and the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) held a high-level Workshop on Oil Investment Prospects at the IEA's Paris headquarters. This was the second joint workshop organised by the two organisations. The first took place in Vienna in June 2003 with the primary objective of providing input to the IEA’s World Energy Investment Outlook (WEIO) which subsequently concluded over $3 trillion is needed in the oil sector by 2030. During this second workshop, the findings of the WEIO were presented as was OPEC's oil outlook. Discussions focused on the future challenges involved in making the necessary investments in the oil sector, as well as the associated key drivers, uncertainties and implications. |
