Background: |
In Beijing on 23 April 2004 the International Energy Agency, the World Coal Institute and the China National Coal Association held a joint seminar on coal investment. The seminar examined the implications of the World Energy Investment Outlook for investment in the coal industry over the next three decades, with a particular focus on Asia, where a large part of the investment will take place. The seminar brought together coal producers and consumers, government officials, regulators, research institutions, the finance industry, and international organisations. Discussions focussed on · The likely demand prospects and investment requirements in the coal industry; · The key uncertainties facing demand and investment prospects; · The potential barriers to the timely investment needed; and · The implications for policy makers, coal producers, electricity generators and the finance industry.
