Tracking Energy Investment
The chapter is to benchmark against actual industry spending in order to calibrate the investment projections of the WEO 2006 to check whether investment for oil and gas is on track, too high or too low. Benchmarking was achieved by an analysis of the investments by key industry participants and by reviewing major projects worldwide. The energy investment projections from the World Energy Investment Outlook 2003 have been revised and updated this year to provide timely analysis of energy investment prospects. Investment requirements for the oil (upstream and downstream) and gas have been reviewed. The chapter analyses the constraints and barriers affecting energy investment (such as capital availability, resources, infrastructure, technology, regulations and environment) and their implications for the global energy market.
Investment projections for coal and electricity sectors (generation, transmission and distribution) can be found in other chapters of the WEO 2006.
