IEA Energy Training and Capacity-Building > Energy Training Week 2011

First IEA Energy Training Week – Paris, 4-8 April, 2011
Over 100 participants from 45 countries attended pioneering new thematic training courses at the IEA’s headquarters in Paris.
The training covered everything from how best to deploy new energy technologies, to in-depth analysis on the latest low-carbon energy policies. The new courses aim to address specific needs of energy professionals and policy-makers in developing and emerging economies. Each session was run by IEA experts and offered a mixture of highly focused lectures and hands-on exercises.
Ten participants from five IEA member countries took part, but the bulk of attendees were from 40 non-member countries, including Brazil, China, India, Russia and South Africa. Observers from most of the multilateral development banks also attended.
The participants were chosen from among 300 applications. This high level of interest means that the IEA will consider repeating the event in 2012, and also explore the option of organising additional courses, including one on energy technology. Participants received a Certificate of Training to acknowledge their participation.
