Member and key partner country emergency policies

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has been conducting reviews of its member countries’ energy security and policies since its inception as a core activity. The process of review by peers supports member countries’ energy policy development and mutual learning, encourages exchange of international experience. In 2016, the IEA decided to modernise the reviews by shifting their focus to key energy security challenges in fast changing global energy markets and to the transition to a clean energy system.  The modernisation brings together the IEA in-depth country reviews and the emergency policy reviews into one review. The reviews guide the countries in their energy transition and test member countries’ responses to energy security challenges and emergencies, notably oil and gas disruptions. IEA member country representatives and the IEA Secretariat therefore jointly conduct in-depth policy and emergency response reviews of member countries.
