CCS Legal and Regulatory Frameworks
The first IEA Legal Aspects of CO2 Storage workshop in 2004 started an important body of work analysing legal issues surrounding CO2 storage in domestic and international law. The second workshop, held in October 2006, documented progress by collecting case studies and sharing legal and regulatory developments from around the world that advance the viability of CCS. The June 2007 IEA publication Legal Aspects of CO2 Storage: Update and Recommendations provided a compilation of up-to-date information regarding the legal, policy and regulatory principles for CCS.
In late 2008, the IEA release a book entitled, CO2 Capture and Storage A Key Carbon Abatement Option, which will include a regional overview of policy and project developments, as well as a chapter on financing, regulatory and public acceptance issues associated with CCS.
