The International Energy Agency is grateful to the European Commission, which has supported the development of the Renewable Energy Policies and Measures Database since its inception in 2004. Currently the Directorate-General Climate Action of the European Commission provides support through the Thematic Programme for Environment and Sustainable Management of Natural Resources (ENRTP).

The principal objectives of the support are to:

• Deepen and refine policy data relating to the uptake of renewable energy in the heat, transport and electricity sectors.

• Increase focus on non-IEA member countries, including those making up the MENA and ASEAN regions, as well as Russia and Transition Economies in the CIS region, Sub-Saharan African countries, and Latin America.

• Make this information widely available through an updated internet portal.
