Background The Global Renewable Energy Policies and Measures Database provides information on policies and measures taken or planned to encourage the uptake of renewable energy. The database covers measures in IEA member countries, together with members of the Johannesburg Renewable Energy Coalition (JREC), and Brazil, China, the European Union, India, Mexico, Russia and South Africa. Comprising more than 1,000 records dating back to 2000 and sometimes earlier, the database provides an excellent source of information on renewable energy policy developments. The database aims to complement the policy analysis carried out by the IEA on renewable energy. It is also part of a continued effort by the IEA, the European Commission and JREC to support decision makers, policy experts and researchers, as well as to provide practical information on renewable energy to the business community and the broader public. The IEA continuously updates the database and government experts are regularly provided with the opportunity to review its contents. However, the database may not be a complete listing of all actions taken. For example, the database does not systematically cover all actions taken at the regional or provincial level.
