| Description | In July 2001, in the midst of the electricity crisis brought on by persistent drought, the Power Crisis Management Chamber established an emergency wind energy program, Proeólica, with the goal of adding 1,050 megawatts of wind capacity to the national grid by December 2003. Under Proeólica, the federal government guarantees a beneficial purchase of wind-generated electricity by state utility Eletrobras for at least 15 years. |
