World Energy Statistics and Balances online data service 2017 edition - (expires 15 April 2018)

The World Energy Statistics and Balances online data service is a package containing both the World Energy Statistics and World Energy Balances online data services.

World Energy Statistics

The  data service contains key energy statistics for over 150 countries and regions. Data are provided in original units for the different types of coal, oil, natural gas, renewables and waste, as well as for electricity and heat. In general, the data are available for 1971 (1960 for OECD countries) to 2015.

The August 2017 update will include data up to 2015, with provisional supply data for 2016 for OECD countries and estimates for 2016 for non-OECD countries.

World Energy Balances

The data service contains energy balances for over 150 countries and regions. The figures are expressed in thousand tonnes of oil equivalent (ktoe) and in terajoules. Conversion factors used to calculate energy balances and indicators such as GDP and population are also provided. In general, the data are available for 1971 (1960 for OECD countries) to 2015.

Definitions of products and flows, explanatory notes on the individual country data, indicators (including GDP, population, industrial production index and ratios calculated with the energy data) and net calorific values are also included.

The August 2017 update will include data up to 2015, with provisional supply data for 2016 for OECD countries and estimates for 2016 for non-OECD countries.

This service will be updated twice a year. In April a preliminary edition containing 
OECD data only is published with the final edition released early August, augmented with data for more than 110 non-OECD countries.

Data points may be used to access the online data services and the browser works best on Internet Explorer (if using Version 10 it should be in compatibility mode). The data services uses Beyond 20 software and if you want to download an entire database and install the B2020 software, then you must be running on a Windows-based system. The B2020 software cannot be installed on a MAC computer.
