Energy Efficiency Description:

The Australia and South Pacific Initiative to Reduce Emissions (ASPIRE) is a focused effort between the US and partners in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific to promote ways to increase the efficiency of operations in the Pacific Ocean. In October 2009 ASPIRE was expanded to include the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB). ASPIRE will support new oceanic air navigation technologies and procedures to reduce fuel burn and carbon dioxide emissions. Similar to the Atlantic Interoperability Initiative to Reduce Emissions (AIRE) agreement with the European Union, ASPIRE calls for new operational procedures that are designed to reduce aviations environmental footprint for all phases of flight on an operation-by-operation basis, from gate-to-gate.
