Nest is a Welsh government scheme that can provide eligible householders with a "whole house" package of energy efficiency improvements free of charge. Nest measures are designed for individual properties so there is no standard package. Measures can include: a new gas boiler; central heating system; loft and cavity wall insulation; newer technologies like air source heat pumps, biomass and external wall insulation. A Nest-qualified energy assessor will survey a qualifying home and identify the possible measures that could make it more energy efficient. This will depend on the particular property. This report will then be used to agree what measures will be funded through the scheme. Not all possible measures will be funded. This will be decided on a case-by-case basis, looking at the cost against the value of the energy saving over time. There are three qualifying criteria for Nest measures: a householder or someone you live with must receive a means-tested benefit; the property must be privately owned or privately rented (where privately rented the landlord must give permission for the measures work to be undertaken); and the property is very energy inefficient and has an Energy Performance Certificate rating of F or G. Householders who do not meet these criteria can still receive support to insulate their home through referral to an energy supplier funded scheme, or they can apply for a Nest partial grant. The partial grant has different eligibility criteria. It provides GBP 125 towards the cost of loft insulation and GBP 140 towards the cost of cavity wall insulation. Nest also provides a range of advice and support services to help householders reduce their fuel bills. It can also refer eligible householders for free or subsidised home energy improvements.Nest is managed by British Gas who sub-contract to installers. The Energy Saving Trust works with British Gas to market the scheme.
