On 21 June 2006, the UK government approved the Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Act, which placed an obligation on Defra to report to parliament on greenhouse gas emissions in the UK and action taken by government to reduce these emissions. The first report was put to the UK parliament on 26 July 2007. With the adoption of the Climate Change Act 2008, this reporting procedure continued under that legislation (see separate entry).
