The Law provides definitions on how the “renewable energy” is defined and understood from the legal perspective in Tajikistan and stipulates how it can be efficiently incorporated to the energy system of the country.

The Law stipulates that a priority for renewable energy projects is given to very remote areas with low population densities where grid reinforcements or new connections are not considered feasible and to areas suffering from power supply shortages.

Renewable energy developers are permitted to renew and enhance the existing equipment and technologies for the purpose of their renewable energy projects in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations.

The Law on Use of Renewable Energy Sources is a legal basis for creation and adoption of by-laws further regulating renewable energy sector in greater details.

The Law calls for creation of guaranteed purchase priced for electricity generated from renewable energy projects. Tariffs should be determined in accordance with generation costs of each project.
