The main objective of the Strategy is to create conditions for the development of a competitive and efficient energy sector while respecting the principles of sustainable development and respect for the environment. The adopted document sets out the directions for development of the energy industry. It also indicates the priorities in environmental protection and key actions that should be taken under long-term plans for energy sector development. Energy sector in this perspective faces few especially important challenges, as reducing the energy intensity of the economy by modernizing the Polish power and heat sectors, diversification of energy production through the implementation and development of nuclear energy and increased use of renewable energy sources. The document also contains the plans of the Government to reduce air pollution and water management reform, including, among others, investment in flood protection.
