In 2000, the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy announced the establishment of a new central agency (Enova SF) that is responsible for implementing energy efficiency policy and programmes, and for increased use of new renewables. The new body was established in 2001, taking over some of the responsibilities of the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Administration (NVE).
